However, as of May 2, 2014, even though the San Diego City Council approved the program, the HERS organization still has some paperwork to do before consumers can apply for financing. The official word is that it may be available by the beginning of the summer.
When the program is ready to go for San Diego residents, here’s what you’ll do: First, contact us for a free estimate on a new air conditioning and heating system. We’ll send one of our certified Design Specialists to your home at a time that is convenient for you. We’ll provide you with an estimate tailored to the specifics of your home, and we guarantee that you’ll be impressed by the detail we will provide so you can make an informed decision.
Next, take the price we quoted you in the estimate and contact the HERO Program staff at 858-437-6411. They’ll take the system installation cost, along with some specifics about your home ownership and use the following information to decide if you qualify for the HERO financing:
1. The amount of equity in your home – you must have a minimum of 10% equity. To figure out this calculation, take the amount you owe on your mortgage and divide that number by the value of your home.
2. You must have 12 months of on-time mortgage payments.
3. No bankruptcies in the last 7 years.
4. You must be current with your property taxes.
Remember, if you qualify for HERO Financing in San Diego, you will see the cost of your financing on your property tax bill, and it will be fully tax deductible.
